Brian Michael McGuire Teacher Individuals & Societies, (323) 340-3500 "If I had influence with the good fairy who is supposed to preside over the christening of all children I should ask that her gift to each child in the world be a sense of wonder so indestructible that it would last throughout life, as an unfailing antidote against the boredom and disenchantments of later years, the sterile preoccupation with things artificial, the alienation from the sources of our strength." _ Rachel Carson, The Sense of Wonder “The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe about us, the less taste we shall have for destruction.” ― Rachel Carson What I value most about ERHS: The things that I value most about ERHS are our wonderful students and my amazing fellow teachers. About Me: I'm looking forward to an exciting 2018/19 school year. This year I am teaching AP World History, Ethnic Studies and year two of the IB Diploma Program course The History of the Americas. This is my 20th year at ERHS. I have also taught Spanish, AP Art History, World History, Latin American Studies as well as AP Human Geography during my time at the Rock. I have also sponsored the Amnesty International club, been a co-sponsor of the Key Club and sponsored the GSA. I also have taken students through EF Tours to Spain, France on several occasions, and we visited Italy during the summer of 2012. In 2015 we were in Italy and Greece. This trip included many of the Greek islands as well as Turkey. Two summers ago we went to Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary. I truly believe that travel is the best teacher and that it enriches the soul.
