It is my pleasure to be continuing as principal at Eagle Rock Junior/Senior High School. During the 2017-18 school year, we celebrated many achievements in Academics, Arts, and Athletics:

ACADEMICS

  • Our March Accreditation Visit went very well; we earned a six-year status with a mid-year two-day visit through June 30, 2024! Thank you to AP Figueroa-Calderon and Mr. Cohen for your leadership! Kudos to all of our stakeholders, especially focus groups, for this incredible validation of our school.
  • We became a recipient of more Career Technical Education Incentive Grants for Marketing and Horticulture-which expands our pathways to eight options for students!
  • Our 2017-2018 Annual Gifted and Talented Education Report has been reviewed and has received Exemplary status. The school-site GATE data and comprehensive Schoolwide Program Narrative met the criteria to be designated as “Exemplary” in LAUSD. Thank you to Magnet Coordinator Mr. Lord, AP Steinorth, and our GATE students, teachers, and families!
  • Over 60 seniors completed our third IB Diploma Programme Cohort!
  • From our SkillsUSA team and teacher Mr. Laird, David S. proudly earned the title of CA’s Graphic Arts Sublimation Champion and LAUSD CTE Student of the Year. Edgar C., silver medalist, will represent ERJSHS in Kentucky at Nationals this summer!
  • We were selected for a Take Home Summer Reading Program.  Beyond the Bell has partnered with the Federal and State Education department to provide our students this exciting supplemental program! All 7th & 8th graders received backpacks with books last week.

ARTS

  • We had over four Performing Arts events this semester: from amazing band concerts directed by Ms. Silverman, ER Stage’s “Mick & Beth” to our Spring Sing which celebrated our seniors in a mesmerizing “Les Miserables” medley and a surprise teacher trio!
  • Our Exemplary Arts Program continues to shine with artifacts and exhibits of our fine and performing arts. Under the leadership of Mr. Oliveros, we had over 60 student-curated art shows throughout Los Angeles! Artists Mark A. & Aaron S. had their art displayed at the Getty Museum!

ATHLETICS

  • Girls Tennis won a Division 1 City Championship title, City Champions girls water polo defended their title in the Winter, and Girls’ Soccer went to their second consecutive Championship game! Boys Volleyball won their 10th consecutive Northern League Title! Runners Jayson C. & James C. won City and competed for the Eagles at State! Thank you to our coaches and Athletic Directors!
  • Our Special Olympics basketball team won the League Championship in February!
  • Mr. Moran named CIF State Football Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools!
  • There are 158 high schools with over 50,000 athletes participating in various sports within the California Interscholastic Federation's (CIF) Los Angeles City Section. Kaelyn L. earned the honor of 2017-2018 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She competed in 3 sports: track & field, volleyball, and basketball.

Have a great summer and I look forward to hearing about your summer reading. In closing, remember to ROCK!
