Hands only CPR

How do the seniors knowing CPR benefit the community? What is the impact of being aware of CPR? Overall the reasons you should know CPR Hands Only and AED awareness and how imperative it is have the ability to save a life.

Scientific and Technical Innovation

This year (2018-19) a law was put into play called AB 1719 which stated that all seniors needed to graduate with the knowledge of Hands-Only CPR and AED awareness. Therefore they all needed to feel confident in performing CPR on a stranger or family member, to help decrease the risks of deaths in the community from Cardiac Arrest. This law was also put into play because of the recent school shootings, so that students can perform CPR on thoses that are victims of Cardiac arrest. So overall I decided to start a pilot program at my school. Which included teaching a class of Seniors CPR Hands-Only and AED awareness. I ended up creating a website which includes a slideshow, feedback survey, along with a test(however during the session each senior took a paper test) and information about the law AB 1719, CPR and AEDs. However to teach them I purchased a CPR in schools kit, which includes dummies, videos, and other needed necessities to teach the seniors. After each session I gave the seniors a certificate of achievement, however they are not certified and I hope my session encourages them to become certified. I have been doing my project since August and the overall hours spent have been approximately 100 hours or more. My website got put on the ERHS website for future students to see and the health teachers to teach the students. I believe that the process of my personal project has impacted me as a being because I learned how important and better you feel as having the ability to save a life. Life is so fragile and one freak accident can occur at anytime and now I can help save the victim who is affected by Cardiac arrest along with the seniors I taught. We will no longer be the bystander we will be the hero. Only the Empowered can achieve it, by being open-minded, having Courage and being a Fearless and Determined Teen!
