Greetings Eagle Rock families! This is Principal Steinorth your school update for the week of November 13th. Our Fall athletic season is rapidly coming to a close. Last Thursday evening our Varsity Boys’ Football team lost a close Quarter-final match up to Angelou HS to end their season and then on Wednesday afternoon our Girls’ Flag football team lost in the semi-finals of the Open Division to San Pedro. Please join me in congratulating both teams and coaching staffs for the tremendous seasons that they had! On a positive note, Coach Julie Wilkins was chosen Flag Football coach of the year by the LA Chargers! Thank you to everyone who voted to help make that happen! Coach Wilkins, along with Coach Moran and Senior players Teiya and Brooklyn will be honored at the Chargers game against the Ravens on Sunday, November 26th. Go Eagles! In other athletic news, our Winter Season sports have begun their pre-season competitions. Check our school website for an updated list of upcoming games. Make sure you come out and see our Fall theater production of Mick and Beth Rule the School with showings on Thursday, November 30 at 4:30 p.m., Friday December 1st at 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, December 2nd at 2:00 and 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $12 presale and $15 at the door. See the attached flyer for more details. Our Fall Band performance will take place on Friday, December 8th at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $8 presale or $10 at the door. Our Fall Choral and Strings concert will take place on Wednesday, December 13th. Look for ticket information in a future message. Today was the deadline for teachers to submit their 15-week grades and parents are recommended to check their students marks through the LAUSD Parent Portal. The end of the Fall semester is just a few weeks away. If your student needs additional support, tutoring is available in our school Library Monday-Thursday through A World Fit For Kids and will be augmented by Eagle Rock teachers on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Additional tutoring is available on the same days of the week virtually through an outside vendor. Contact your student’s counselor for more information. As a reminder, all LAUSD students have access to Tutor.com through Schoology for homework help at any time. The deadline to register for LAUSD Winter Academy has been extended through November 28th. Winter academy empowers students with academic support and enrichment to amplify their performance with three extra days in the classroom. All participating students will receive extra classroom support and the chance to raise a D or F to a passing grade via a contract with their teacher. All students attending Winter Academy have access to healthy meals and fun enrichment activities designed to encourage exploration.
