School update for the week of September 11th.

Greetings Eagle Rock families! This is Principal Steinorth your school update for the week of September 11th.

The theme for this year’s Homecoming Dance was revealed on Thursday this week with great excitement. “There’s no place like homecoming” will be a Wizard of Oz themed event and will be held on Saturday, October 7th from 6:00-10:00 p.m. in the Lomen (South) Gymnasium. Ticket are on sale for the introductory price of $10 until next Wednesday. The Homecoming football game will take place the following week on Friday, October 13th against Marshall High School and will also be a triple header with the Boys’ Junior Varsity game at 3:00 p.m. to be followed by Girls’ Flag Football at 5:00 p.m. and then at 7:00 p.m.

Everyone is invited to our very first triple header football tonight against San Pedro. The festivities will began with the Boys’ Junior Varsity game at 3:00 p.m. Girls’ Flag Football will begin at 5:15 p.m. and then at 7:30 p.m. Boys’ Varsity will play San Pedro in a rematch of last year’s Open Division playoff game. Tickets are $12 General Admission, $8 for students and seniors, and $2 for children.

Parents of 12th grade students should be aware that Senior Contracts and other important information were distributed during an Advisory assembly today. Students in grades 7-11 were took part in our second Virtual Assembly of the school year and heard a valuable presentation regarding mental health awareness presented by our school PSWs.

Today was also the deadline for teachers to submit 5 week grades. Parents can access those grades for their students via the LAUSD Parent Portal. If you do not yet have Parent Portal access, please contact our Parent Center next week for assistance.

Next week the school will have a busy athletics schedule with, Girls’ Tennis home against Downtown Magnets and Girls’ Volleyball hosting Marshall on Monday, September 18th. Girls’ Tennis will also play El Camino on the road Wednesday before hosting Roybal on Thursday next week. Boys’ Water Polo will host Birmingham High School on Wednesday. Boys’ Junior Varsity Football will host Pomona High School on Thursday evening while Varsity will travel to Pomona on Friday evening.

Parents are invited to this month’s Coffee With The Principal on Thursday, September 21st at 9:00 a.m. in our school Library.

Finally, Friday, September 22 is a Minimum Day with students being dismissed at 1:18 p.m. The school will be closed on Monday, September 25th and will resume on Tuesday, September 26th.  Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
