School update for the week of October 31st

Greetings Eagle Rock families! This is Principal Steinorth with your school update for the week of October 31st.

Next week, November 7- November 10, students in all grades will take the School Experience Survey in their English class. This survey provides the district with important data about how students feel about the campus and instructional program. Parents and staff members will also receive a direct communication from LAUSD to participate in the survey.

Additionally, students in 8th, 10th and 12th grade will be taking a second survey in the same English class about Tobacco Use and Prevention. If you don’t want your student to take the Tobacco Use and Prevention survey, please fill out and return the consent form attached to the email version of this message. If you need a paper copy of the consent form or you have further questions, please contact Mr. Cohen at joseph.cohen@lausd.net or by phone (323) 340-3576.

Attention Senior families! If you need help completing college applications or financial aid forms, our College and Career Office can help. We are hosting a series of drop-in workshops in November including one tomorrow, Saturday, November 5th from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the College Office.

In athletics, our Girls volleyball and Boys’ Water Polo seasons came to an end on Tuesday and Thursday this week with losses to Birmingham and Palisades High Schools. Congratulations to Coaches Elam, Hernandez and Green Jacobson and all of our scholar athletes on these teams for their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice during this season. In happier news, our Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity and Frosh-soph Cross Country teams won Northern League titles on Wednesday! Next up our runners will compete in the City Finals. Eagle Rock football finished the regular season 9-1 and were seeded 8th in the CIF-City Open Division. The Eagles will go on the road to face number 1 seed San Pedro on Thursday, November 10th at 7:30 p.m.

Finally, the school will be closed on Friday, November 11th in commemoration of Veteran’s Day. Have a wonderful weekend everyone! Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour on Sunday morning as we resume Standard Time.
