School updates for week of Sep. 12th

Greetings Eagle Rock families! This is Principal Steinorth with your school update for the week of September 12th. There were a number of events this week that highlighted the fantastic parent involvement that we are fortunate to have at the Rock. Thank you to all the parents who participated in the election meetings for our school councils, or attended Coffee with The Principal on Thursday, or the first PTSA General meeting of the school year on Wednesday! Our school cannot operate without the active participation of parents and we are grateful for your support!

On another front, the school district continues to recover from the Ransomware Attack which led to many district software systems to stop working for students, staff, and parents. Please be aware that LAUSD has delayed the issuance of 5-week Progress Reports for one week due to the impact of the attack. Teachers will now submit 5-week grades by Friday, September 23rd and Progress Reports will be mailed home the following week.

Next week, the school will be celebrating the 25th day of school on Tuesday and Start With Hello Week in collaboration with the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation. The first event is a chance for us to celebrate student attendance. This week Eagle Rock was recognized for having the second-best student attendance in Local District Central for the month of August with over 97%! Start With Hello is intended to empower students to be more socially inclusive and connect with each other to combat social isolation.

Finally, you may have seen stories this week about a tragedy at another LAUSD school caused by a fentanyl overdose. Please take time to speak to your children about the dangers involved with ingesting substances with unknown manufacture; It truly can be a life and death decision. Have a safe and restful weekend everyone!
