Announcement September 22nd

Happy Sunday, Eagles. This is Principal Keipp with the first of three updates.  The first is about academics, arts and activities, and athletics. The second e-mail is about upcoming meetings. The third e-mail is for 11th and 12th grade students who identify as female.

  1. Academics:
    1. On Friday two teachers were displaced due to enrollment needs. We thank Ms. Ting for her brief and productive time with our Special Education department and students. We also thank Ms. Simonian for her fourteen years as a Business/Computers teacher, Personal Project Coordinator, and leadership with IB Design courses.
    2. PD Tuesday: Tuesdays September 24 is a 1:30pm dismissal for our teachers’ professional growth.
    3. Class Changes: Several course changes have been taking place. Thank you to our counselors and department chairs for their on-going work to meet contractual class sizes.
    4. IB Instructional Visit: A team from Fairfax HS will be visiting classes on Wednesday, September 25 to learn about our implementation of IBMYP and IBDP.
  2. Arts and activities:
    1. Our Homecoming Dance is Saturday, September 28, from 7pm-11pm at the LA River Center. Tickets are on sale for $25 during lunch. No tickets will be sold at the door. Guest passes must be submitted in a timely fashion.
  3. Fall Athletics: All of our fall sports teams complete this week except for football. Join us for our Homecoming Parade and Football Game on October 4 versus Marshall High School! Go Eagles!

In closing, from September 23-27th, 2019, thousands of schools like ours and youth organizations across the United States will participate in Start With Hello Week.   1. Lunch: October 2 is the last day for students to receive free or reduced lunch based on last year’s meal application! Please apply today at to ensure that your student is receiving free or reduced meals! For students who don’t eat lunch, lunch eligibility also determines fee waivers for testing such as SAT, PSAT, AP, IB DP, and more. Title 1 funding for the next four years depends on this year’s data!
  2. Student Voice:
    1. ERHS is now accepting student self-nomination forms for School Site Council (SSC) and Local School Leadership Council (LSLC). The self-nomination window begins September 17 through September 23. Additional forms are available in in the main office and parent center.  Elections will be conducted on September 25 & 26 during lunch at the quad. 
    2. SSC will focus on developing, approving, and monitoring the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). The SPSA identifies and implements curriculum and instructional practices to meet the targeted measurable objectives in ELA, mathematics, EL program, graduation rate, and culture and climate.  LSLC has purview to review staff professional development, student discipline, school bell schedule, local budgets, and guidelines for use of equipment.  Please consider participating as a member of our councils.  Thank you. 
  3. Parent/Guardian Voice:
    1. Our Instructional Director Mr. Campos will be hosting fiveNortheast Parents and Partners Association (NEPA) Meetingsthroughout the school year.  The first one will be on Monday, September 23, from 12:30-2:00 p.m. at the Arroyo Seco Branch Library.  Included in the agenda will be a needs assessment to identify topics for future meetings.  Dr. Rocio Rivas from Board District 5 will also be there to provide updates.
    2. Our IB Parent Meeting takes place on Tuesday, September 24, at 6pm, in the library. Come learn more about our schoolwide IB program for grades 7-10 and cohorts on 11th and 12th grade students.
    3. Our Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support and Intervention Committee meets on September 26, 7:15a in the Title 1 office. Share your perspective about our implementation of school culture and climate.
    4. Parent/Guardian Schoology Workshops: Attached is a flyer regarding two Parent Portal and Schoology sessions in October (10/5 & 10/19)! Stay connected with your student(s) attendance, academics, and more!
  4. Got Legos, Duplo, or other building block pieces? Our engineering students would appreciate any size donations. Please drop them off in the Main Office for Mr. Tse!
