Announcements May 22nd

Hello, Eagles,  This is Mrs. Keipp with the first of two announcements. The first is about academics and arts. The second is about two family literacy events on Tuesday, May 28 and Classified School Employees’ Appreciation Week.


  1. May 24 is a minimum day with a 12:30pm dismissal to prepare for upcoming finals.
  2.  School is closed on Monday May 27 for Memorial Day. Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in military service for the United States.
  3. We will be offering college classes thru Los Angeles City College (LACC) this summer and fall 2019.  Summer classes are available to all current 9th, 10th and 11 grade students.  Fall classes are available to current 8th, 10th and 11th grade students.  Please see attachments for class offering information and enrollment instructions. Applications are due May 31st. 


  1. Our Eagle Rock Junior/Senior Dance Company presents a dance showcase tomorrow, Thursday, May 23, 7pm, at Eagle Rock Elementary School’s auditorium. Tickets are $5 pre-sale and $7 at the door.
  2. Our Spring Musical, “School of Rock” opens next week, Thursday-Saturday. Come see our talented on-stage performers and behind-the-scenes stage crew in action! Tickets are $10 pre-sale and $12 at the door:

Hello, Eagles, This is Mrs. Keipp with a second announcement. This announcement is about family events and our Community Schools plan.

  1. Eagle Rock Jr/Sr High School is in the process of applying to become a Community School. Faculty & Staff will be voting to continue the process on May 28th and May 29th View Application on our website. Ballots will be delivered to period 3 classes on Friday, May 24 and collected Wednesday, May 29.
  2. There will be two Family Night events on Tuesday, May 28, from 5-7pm, see the attached flyers in the e-mail.
    1. In the North Gym, PTSA is hosting “Robotics and Engineering” with participants from our Robotics Club, Engineering department, and guests from Mt. Washington FIRST Lego Robotics and Franklin HS’ Robotics team.
    2. In the Student Cafeteria, “Parent College Literacy Night” with workshops including FAFSA for seniors, What I Wish I Knew about College Before I Got There, College Preparation for grades 7-9, and College Preparation for grades 10 and 11.

In closing, The State will recognize May 19 – 25, 2019 as Classified School Employees’ Appreciation Week. Each and every classified staff member serves an important role in making a difference at the schools and in the lives of our students, please join in the recognition and appreciation of classified employees at your school site. From the bus drivers, cafeteria staff, school office staff, campus aides, special education teams, financial managers, the trades, building and grounds personnel, police officers, and more - all of these employees would benefit from knowing they are appreciated for what they do for students. Tomorrow we will have a light continental breakfast in the Main Office. Feel free to bring refreshments!
