To describe what happened in the sophomore boys' basketball games this week there are only two words: TOTAL DOMINATION.

Monday the Sophomores defeated the Lincoln Tigers by a score of 70 to 22, a 48 point margin of victory. Yesterday the sophomore boys pummeled cross-town rival Franklin, winning easily 78 to 40, another impressive 38 point drubbing. Thus far in the season the sophomores are 5 and 0 and have outscored their opponents by an average of 23 points per game!

The Freshman team came up short in a tight contest against Lincoln, losing by only 4 points. Yesterday, though, they played solid team basketball and, logging their first league victory, trounced the Panthers by 42 points in a lopsided 56 to 14 win.

Congratulations to both teams! This next week we play two home games: Belmont on Monday and Wilson on Wednesday. Come out and support our teams and watch some exciting, fast-paced, West Coast-style, up-tempo, blink-and-you-miss-it basketball! These guys are GOOD! Eagle basketball Rocks!

Eagle Rock High School can add another LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP to its storied athletic program. Yesterday, before a record home crowd, the Sophomore Boy's Basketball team defeated the Wilson Mules to claim their second championship in a row. The team employed a crushing full court press and an aggressive fast break game that overwhelmed the Mules early in the first quarter. With solid play by starters Anthony Rankin, Joe Royo, Michael Abella, Michael Corpuz, and Shaun Jacob, the Eagles took an early lead that was never relinquished. Jerome Macaraig, Jesse Delgado, Daniel Cruz, Thomas Carpio, Lenon Silva, Brian Martinez, Anthony Barahona and Gerrymi Bernardo also contributed to maintaining the lead and ensured the team's double digit victory. With great passing, solid fundamental defense and the determination that this was "our house, our season, our championship", the team showed it had the heart of a champion. Congratulations on a great season, sophomores! You are back to back LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!!!

The frosh/soph coaches met on October 26th to determine overall team placements and to choose the All-League first team, second team and honorable mention players from the six teams (Eagle Rock, Franklin, Marshall, Belmont, Wilson and Lincoln) in the Northern League. In keeping with a strong basketball tradition, the Eagle Rock freshman and sophomore teams came out on top.

The freshman team, with an overall 7-3 league record, finished tied with Belmont and was crowned League Co-Champions. Cameron Lord was voted by his teammates and unanimously named by all coaches as the League's Most Valuable Player. Michael Abella was named to the All League First Team, Andrew Reyes was nominated to the All-League Second Team, and Joe Royo earned a spot on the All-League Honorable Mention list. All four of these players were instrumental in the overall success of the freshman team.

The sophomore team concluded their season undefeated at 10-0 and outright League Champions, a title they also earned last year as freshmen. Their dominant play earned them six total spots on the All-League Team. The sophomores voted Alejandro Loya as the team's Most Valuable Player and the coaches repeated this acknowledgement by naming him the MVP of the All-League Team. Two of his starting teammates, Wilson Chan and Edward Gonzales, made the All-League First Team. The other two starters, Kevin Guihama and Chris Guerra, were voted to the All-League Second Team. Carlos Urioste, who took over for Chris Guerra after he was injured mid-season, earned a place as an All-League Honorable Mention.

The teams are currently working on plans for their banquet which will likely be held in late November or early December. At that time the rest of the team awards will be announced.

Thanks to all of the Eagle Rock community for supporting our basketball program and congratulations to the League Champion freshman and sophomore teams!

The freshman and sophomore basketball teams finished their seasons on Wednesday.

Eagle Rock Basketball

The freshmen concluded their season this week with victories over both Lincoln and crosstown rival Franklin. The Franklin game went into overtime but our Eagles were able to outscore the Panthers to emerge victorious. Interestingly, the Franklin game was the second consecutive game that went into overtime for the freshmen. In the Wednesday game from last week, our freshman team endured two overtime periods before losing to Belmont by one point. Needless to say, both of the overtime games made for some very exciting basketball and both games showed just how far all of the teams have come since the first round of games. The freshmen ended the season with a very respectable record of 7 wins and 3 losses.

The sophomore team completed their season undefeated in league play. Their closest game was the aforementioned one-point come from behind victory over Marshall in the early season. Despite losing last year's league MVP to an injury, the sophomores played solid team basketball and were able to control almost all of their games from the opening tip to the final horn. Their 10-0 record is a notable achievement given their status as defending league champions from last year. Look for great things from these players as they move up to Junior Varsity and Varsity next year.

Congratulations to all of the players for a great season!

The freshman and sophomore basketball teams have just a few games left in their seasons.

As of October 16th the freshman have 5 wins and 2 losses and the sophomores are undefeated with 7 wins in league competition. This past Monday's games against Marshall showed just how far each of the teams have come this season. The freshman team avenged an early season loss to Marshall by defeating them in a thrilling overtime game that drew our largest crowd to date. The sophomores won handily and proved that their early season 1-point victory over Marshall, a game in which they came back from a 21 point deficit, was no fluke.

Both teams have remained mostly injury-free with one exception: the sophomores lost Chris Guerra to a dental injury suffered last week in practice. Games are exciting to watch because of their fast-paced fast break style of play. Individual and team fundamentals are improving and discipline is evident on both offense and defense.

On October 18th the teams play at Belmont. Their next and last home game is Monday October 23 against our cross-town rival Franklin. The last game of the season is at Lincoln on Wednesday October 25th. Come and be a part of the excitement of Eagle Rock Basketball!
